Sunday morning, it became obvious that Prime’s other more important commitment was detrimental to White Heat’s progress. He is the most organized and dedicated person in the house. Without us stepping up to the plate, we were sunk. Boom had to work 3-11 and EJ was having a personal issue which sort of left me holding the net. I sat on the edge of my bed freaking out because the food still hadn’t been bought, decorations weren’t done and the music was still in a state of flux. XL, Wood and his beau assured me everything would be okay.

What followed were hours of store-hopping, phone calling, abundant frustration, music-tweaking, Atlanta traffic, cooking, improvisation, cleaning and teamwork to pull off White Heat; without a doubt, our most last-minute thrown together affair (and most likely, the last one I will be a part of). Still, it was fabulous. DIC was host to a beautiful array of black, white, latino, gay, straight and bisexual womyn and men. And we ate and drank and cut-up in the kitchen (why can’t black folk stay out of the kitchen at a party?) and laughed and watched movies in the theater room. And drank. The turnout was lower than projected but I predicted that. This is the first year we had to compete with an abundance of other house parties in Atlanta.

Selected Moments You Missed

  • The music (which was a hit, thankgod).

  • Mr. “White Heat”.

  • Daryl’s lemon and sour cream cakes!!!

  • JJFad’s cousin, who really got my fire going.

  • Boom and Wood performing their mating dances

  • Somebody referring to me and Wood as Patsy and Edina (I’m Patsy, in case you wondered).

  • Shortcut showing off his cute (and young), straight friend

  • Superstar Bartender Lenny’s cocktails which burned our guests’ sensibilities (especially EJ’s sister).

  • My newly improved apple martinis.

  • Seeing a festive side of M-C who normally seems reserved to me.

  • Walking into my room at the end of the night/morning and finding XL laying across my futon in his white underwear.
  • Five More Pics

  • Frank, Sly and XL strike a pose.

  • Wood’ Beau and J-Low prepare to release White Heat balloons.

  • Michael, Melle Mell & two foxy guests laughing at somebody in the entertainment room. By the way, that painting will scare you in the dark.

  • Just Frank.

  • A bad photo of XL and I in front of the DIC koi pond and waterfall.

despite the chaos (or maybe because of it) it sounds like the party was on point.

And that Apple Martini looks damn good.

    More Pics! More Pics!

I’m a nudge but, you know, that’s just how its got to be.

Wonderful … I’m with Jason … More Pics!

Oh yes more photos are needed. It sounds like a fabulous evening.

    1) yes, yes…more pics! 2) what did you do to improve your apple martinis? 3) white folk can’t stay outta the kitchen at parties, either. ;)

Look at the end of the post. I’ve uploaded five more pics from the party. I intended on taking many more than I did but too many Southern Comfort & 7ups and Green Apple Martinis short-circuit the memory.

Any tips you can give me on taking better pics with a digital camera (especially in darker situations) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the extra pictures … Finally being able to put names with faces is wonderful.

I love everybody in white…so fresh and so clean for real.

White frames too, J? I’m impressed.

Yes, faces with names is a good thing.

    Very nice. Umph, umph, umph!
