Top Model Update

Mollie Sue was robbed!

by j. brotherlove

mollie sue.jpgI know everyone is talking about Mandisa’s loss but I was rolling watching the girls on America’s Next Top Model. “The Girl With Two Bad Takes” episode challenged the girls to perform improv with Nick Cannon and other Wild ‘n Out cast memebers. Most of the girls were just okay; Furonda and Mollie Sue were pretty good. Jade (to no one’s surprise) failed miserably and took the opportunity to attack girls specifically about what she considers their shortcomings.

This week’s main challenge had the girls shoot a mock CoverGirl commercial, requiring them to walk up some stairs, interact with party guests, approach the camera, pick up the product and sell it to the viewer. Instead of having a script, the girls had to improv their lines throughout the commercial as long as they ended in “Easy. Breezy. Beautiful. CoverGirl.” I hope they repeat this challenge next season; it’s good one. None of the girls got a perfect 10, but some were close. On the other hand, some were dreadful. The dreadful ones, of course, are more fun to watch.

Here’s my model-by-model breakdown…

  • Tyra - Finally Ms. Banks has learned how to act! When she fainted in front of the girls, I really did believe her. Although logic tells me, if that had happened, we would’ve heard about it on the news before it aired.
  • Brooke - Why is Brook still on the show? Poor thing. “I just love wearing CoverGirl. It’s just sooo nice to wear.” She should’ve been sent home. Her photos suck, she can’t handle being in the spotlight, and she’s just awkward overall.
  • Danielle - Danielle is my favorite underdog of the season. She photographs great but homegirl has the worst diction. “So why not start with that perfection… on your face?”
  • Furonda - I have a hard time with Furonda. She’s a nice girl but she looks like a skinny boy in a long wig. And how likely is it that a model with bad skin will win a CoverGirl contract? However, her adlib for the commercial rocked: “Parties are so unpredictable. But your makeup doesn’t have to be.”
  • Jade - OMG! Where do I start? The “draggish” undiscovered model always has an excuse for why she doesn’t excel in any of the challenges (“I just need more direction”). She counters this by putting down the other girls and being a bitch. Her commercial was hilariously bad. After oozing nonsense (“You look fabulous”, “That felt fabulous”), she walked up to the camera and couldn’t remember one damn line. So she cursed, instead.
  • Joanie - Um… “I love coming to Los Angeles. I love entertaining my friends.” Nuff said.
  • Leslie - Overall, I really like Leslie’s look. And she walked in that commercial! But the way she delivered her lines at the end was not so hot.
  • Mollie Sue got robbed! Although she fucked up the commercial, she wasn’t the worse. She didn’t deserve to go home so early (essentially, because the judges didn’t see her personality). I can hear nOva’s hear break. But her look is fresh and I expect to see more of her.
  • Nnenna - Initially, Nnenna seemed like a shrinking violet. Obviously, she was disarming the other girls. She is a serious contender. If she was a bit more personable, her commercial would’ve been perfect. Now if she can just drop that zero of a boyfriend and get herself a hero.
  • Sara - Despite holding the product out of the shot while holding a cocktail (an easy mistake for someone who has never done a commercial), the rest of her improving was on point. And she looked great!

So who is my favorite? It’s hard to say. I’m leaning toward Nnenna. But she has to step up the friendliness factor for me to fully commit. I’ll see what the remaining weeks reveal. As a aside, that Nick Cannon is growing up very nicely. Maybe it’s the spring air but I could totally hit that.

Nick Cannon is an asshole, but he’s actually kinda buffed-out and I’m actually kinda wanting to punch myself for even leaning toward the possibility that he could be semi-hot.

Yes, I’m pissed about Mollie Sue. Not only did she lose to Jade, but she lost to Brooke and Furonda.

What’s the fucking point of me watching the rest of the cycle?

i’m pissed too. i turn my back for one hot second and tyra’s silly ass send the wrong girl home. this episode should have been “the wrong girl got sent home.” it should have been brooke… or jade or lesley.
