An underdog becomes ‘Top Model’

Cycle 6 of America’s Next Top Model ended as unpredictably as it began. I already admitted Danielle was “my favorite underdog of the season.”. But I never expected her to win given the attention paid to her mumbly southern diction. I’m so glad I was wrong!

To be honest, I really like both girls. Joanie is hot and versatile. But her final runway challenge was just okay. I swear sometimes she looked like she was trying to catch a bus! And let’s face it, other than the painfully scripted “My Life As A Cover Girl” commercials, when else have we heard these models speak?

Honestly, I don’t know what I enjoyed more about the season finale of America’s Next Top Model, watching Danielle win Cycle 6 or rejoicing in Jade being shut out of the top two spots. Monday, nOva asked “how can someone that claims to be so spiritually centered not be humble?” That’s what we all wondered as Jade tore through the competition. But her luck and decent pics came to an abrupt ending. Characteristically, instead of crying on her way out, Jade composed an incoherent spoken word as she covered her disappointment with weak laughter. To paraphrase Miss J., at least she’s consistent.

I am soooo glad Danielle won. A dark skinned black Top Model…WHAT!!!

I hated Jade from the first episode. Joanie still hadn’t figured out how to use her new teeth.

They kept talking about Danielle’s speach, but I knew she had a chance.

You remember the very first ANTM winner?

It was ‘mumble mouthed’ Adrienne Curry. This girl could not talk to save her life. She sounded like dude from the Roots in the hook for “Give it here” By the time the show aired and she had to make an appearance she sounded like a new person.

Speech coaches work wonders…look at the NBA. Danielle will be just fine. I’m looking forward to seeing her life as a Cover Girl outtakes next year.

Interesting how both finalists needed dental work. You’re right about Joanie. But she is going to make some agency a lot of money.

Can’t wait for Danielle’s Cover Girl commercials because Nicole (last year’s winner) puts me to sleep.

I think Danielle is my favorite ANTM contestant ever. And yes, lawd, thank God for DVR. That means I can fast forward past Nicole’s sleep-inducing “My Life as a (Boring) Covergirl” clips.

I lost track of the show. I’m glad she won.
